SAVANNAH, GEORGIA

A couple of years ago there were a group of women behind me as we all waited to board a boat for a river cruise.  One of them previously lived in Savannah.  As they all chatted about parties and other experiences in Savannah, one of them said, "I ain't nevah had a bad time in Savannah!  (pronounced Su vau nuh)  Well, I just have to agree with that statement.  Today was not a bad time in Savannah!  We got a late start but still hit a lot!  We went to The Paris Market, Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons Restaurant, Paula Deen's Store, World Market, JoAnne's Fabrics, and Wal-Mart.  It is 3:00 AM as I write this.  I hope to get some sleep and then go the Keller's Flea Market in Savannah!  I will post more later....I have pictures!!!

Weekend Flea Market Treasures

I had big plans for the weekend.  I always over plan.  Always.  I plan to clean the house, clean out the garage, do the laundry, make products to sell, go to flea markets and yard sales, clean, sand, & paint furniture, paint the shop building, buy stamps, write/address/mail Christmas cards, work on facebook page, work on blog, catch up on my sleep, watch television, read books, glue broken things together, and clean out the flower beds.  Usually by Saturday morning I am running a bit behind.

So, we head out on the highway, looking for adventure!  When we passed a small Goodwill store my husband asked if I wanted to stop.  No, last time we went there I didn't find anything.  (Yes, I know that is so incredibly stupid.)  But, in my defense I was reading the new issue of Cottage Living Magazine.  Seconds later I reconsidered and we went back!  First thing right inside the store was a big wide wooden picture frame double matted and a pretty water color inside.  $19.99!  In the same bin was an unused gold frame for an 8 X 10 picture. $3.99!  Next up, an unused twin size white sheet, 2 yards of blue linen, a carved letter sign, a little white vase with blue flowers on it, a blue & white toile tin tea canister, and a "Main Stays Home" white curtain panel with crochet valance!  Husband told me there was a sign in the window, 25% off for Veterans.  Sweet!  He's a veteran.  The total was $24. 38!  Turns out the big frame was 50% off!  Score!

We Love Angel's Wings Mini Mall

Okay, Mini Mall is a stretch.  It's a small building pretty much as full as it can get.  Outside were 2 high back upholstered dining chairs.  One is a little loose but I pretty much expect that with used chairs.  Fabric is a little dirty but I expect that too.  Inside I found a heavy little wood and wrought iron sleigh.  I ask if she wanted to keep the glittered leaves that were in it.  Someone else might want them.  She had a lot of fabric but only one that I wanted, an off white with dark blue or black stripes.  Total $60.00!

We searched through several surrounding yard sales but didn't find anything.  We were disappointed not to find more at this huge sale, but we were pleased with the treasures we found.

Set a Nice Table ~ Sunday Breakfast

My husband is a wonderful cook.  A truly good cook is one who enjoys cooking and creating a good meal.  I am a truly good diner.  I think that needs no description.  So after his trip to Walmart this morning which led to the photos of the makings for dinner, he cooked breakfast.  So, already in the gotta snap a picture of everything mode, I snapped this picture!

I believe we should always set the table nicely.  We use a table cloth or placemats, sometimes both, for every meal.  Exept those meals we eat sitting in front of the television of course!  We sure do that occassionally!  Both of my grandmothers always used table cloths for every meal.  And they were not fancy women or socialites.  They were farm women who new how to make a home comfortable.  It only takes seconds, absolutely just seconds to throw on a table cloth.  And they are easy to throw in the washing machine when they get dirty.  We use cloth napkins too!  Make your meal presentation attractive and it makes meal time even nicer.  A simple table setting made this simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns and biscuits feel special!

What's For Dinner?

After my husband came home from Walmart this morning, he put several items in an oblong cake carrier & ask does this look like a good dinner for tonight?  I said, "Yes, and you are so smart! That looks like a great picture!  I put in a few more items, poured the food out and snapped this shot.

Ah, yeah!  Low Country Boil is on the table tonight!  We are eatin' fine!

Pretty Little Chair ~ Episode 2

The pretty little chair got some attention today.  My husband took it apart and started the repairs!  Yay!  Each back leg had a big 3 inch nail pounded through it to hold it to the frame. Each had split the frame and one had even pushed a chunk of wood out of the frame.  He pulled the nails out, filled the holes with wood putty and sanded them smooth.  Then he filled the two split areas of the frame with wood glue and clamped them tight.  Can't get the pictures to load for some reason.  Probably just from lack of sleep!

She probably won't get anything else done to her until next week.  We are going flea marketing tomorrow and Saturday! 

This Pretty Little Chair Needs Some Love.

I found this chair in an alley in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee.  The back legs have broken away from the frame and have been glued and nailed.  The cover is slightly stained but not in bad condition. I took the fabric off the back before remembering to take pictures.  The fabric is stapled on, then the edges were covered with a strand of little metal round things that looked like small upholstery tacks until I started to pull them out and discovered it was strands stapled with long very narrow staples. I didn't know such metal strands existed. We had a tough time pulling out the billion long staples!  And I had thought it would be an easy step to sit and pull out tacks while I watched television.

My husband will take it apart and repair it correctly!

 It is a very small chair for an adult but it isn't a child's size either.  Any idea  why a restaurant would have this size chair?  Wow, what a mess this work shop/garage is!  But, hey they all look like this.... don't they?

After he repairs the legs, I will sand and paint it.  I have a piece of fabric I have been saving for just the right thing for about 8 or 9 years.  It is very old.  A flea market treasure.  You will love it!  No sneak peeks though!  We bought upholstery tacks at Home Depot.  They also have them at Lowes.  I may not use them though.  A small braided trim around the edges would look nice.  Check back with me for updates on this pretty little chair that was left out for the garbage truck.

Wine Crate Ottoman and Monday night TV

Whew!  Just about let this day get past without posting!  Can't let that happen!  So, it has been a busy day, but I watched my Monday night tv.  I love Mike and Molly and Two Broke Girls  on CBS!  Last week my husband and I built an ottoman. We had some wine crates that I love and have been turning over ideas for a couple of years trying to come up with the perfect use for them.  I saw an idea in O Magazine that was primo for the vino!

  

I bought a remnant of linen at a local antiques store a couple of months ago. I buy things without knowing what I will use them for but with a strong knowledge that I will one day!  I clipped it to a glass cutting board before painting the stenciled design for the cover.
                                  

Hey, see that little black and red thing with a key ring on it?  That is a little measuring tape. Rides in my purse all the time!

Mr. Shabby French Country Cottage Basement cut a board for the top and put casters on the bottom of the box.  We are regulars at Home Depot!!!  I padded the board with a double layer of foam, stapling it firmly all around.  And yes, as a matter of fact, I did scratch the table.  :)

                                  
I used black fabric paint and stenciled a fluer de lis on the fabric.

I glued and stapled the fabric to the underside of the lid for extra hold.  Staple guns are wonderful tools!

This is the right side of the box.  The logos and designs are impressed into the wood. 

We attached the top with hinges so it can be used for storage.  Throw all those newspapers from the floor into it when the door bell rings.

Stenciled top.  I love stenciling.  I just love painting. I had to make myself put the paint away.  I was looking around for things to stencil a fluer de lis onto.

                     This is the left side.  It still has the Import Label on it!  Pretty darn cool, I say!

   Ahhhhhh...........It works.     It sounds simple but really it was......so truly very simple!
